The Las Vegas Police Department will hold a public press briefing on an arrest made in the 1996 killing of rapper Tupac Shakur late Friday afternoon.

USA TODAY will be providing live coverage beginning at 3:30 p.m. ET. You can watch the video at the top of the page or on USA TODAY's YouTube channel.

Police announced on Friday that one of the last living witnesses to the 1996 drive-by shooting of then-25-year-old Shakur had been arrested in a long-awaited breakthrough in the case, reported the Associated Press. The suspect, Duane "Keffe D" Davis, has been on police radar since the crime, having admitted to being inside the Cadillac where shots were fired that night.

Considered one of the most influential rappers of all time, Shakur was heavily involved in the East Coast-West Coast rivalry of the era, igniting tensions between himself and rival Biggie Smalls, also known as the Notorious B.I.G., who later died in a seperate 1997 shooting.

On Sept. 7, 1996, Shakur was riding in a BMW driven by Marion "Suge" Knight following a casino fight earlier in the night when a Cadillac pulled up beside them at a red light and began shooting. Shakur was infamously killed in the incident, kicking off a decades-long mystery that both stumped and enraptured investigators and the public alike.

Before the recent arrest, police raided Davis' home in July and collected an assortment of items, including computers, a cellphone, a hard drive and several .40-caliber bullets. Davis was charged with murder, AP reported.

Further information is expected to be provided in the press conference.
